11 items that you must have during pregnancy.

In no particular order, and starting from the first trimester through the third trimester, here are all the items that you must-have during pregnancy.

1. Prenatal vitamins.

The foundation of a healthy pregnancy without complications is in a healthy diet, and also the consumption of prenatal vitamins to supply nutritional deficiencies or to cover the additional nutrients that your body needs for the formation of a healthy baby.

Especially during the first trimester of pregnancy, you are going to need more folic acid in your diet. Folic acid is crucial to prevent neural tube defects in babies. According to a study by the March of Dimes is known that a pregnant woman should take a multivitamin with 400 micro-grams of folic acid every day before, during, and after a pregnancy as part of a healthy regimen.

During pregnancy in addition to folic acid, your body will need an additional amount of iron, calcium, vitamins D, choline, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins B and C, among others. Please note that a multivitamin should never replace a healthy diet during pregnancy. However, many doctors recommend taking a daily multivitamin to counteract any deficiency of any essential nutrient.

2. Good skin moisturizers or oils.

From the beginning of pregnancy, and due to the effects of pregnancy hormones, the skin of a pregnant woman can become dry and itchy. The chronic dryness of the skin combined with the rapid growth in certain areas equals to the appearance of stretch marks. Mainly during the second and third trimesters. For this reason, you must implement an early skincare regimen with organic, non-toxic products that provide you relief and comfort.

3. Morning sickness remedies.

More than 80% of women during pregnancy will experience morning sickness. Luckily for all women, the intensity of morning sickness is not the same; for some, it is mild, while for others, morning sickness can be debilitating. That’s where a product to relieve the morning sickness can come on handy.

Here you have two examples:

  • Sea bands.
  • Tummy drops.

4. A gentle toothbrush.

One of the essential parts of the body that you must keep clean and cared for in the mouth. Due to hormones, women during pregnancy tend to have many problems with oral health. A visit to your dentist, regular cleanings, and a new, soft toothbrush can help you minimize any issues.

5. Maternity belts or belly bands.

As early as 15 weeks gestation, most women during pregnancy begin to have a small bump. Belly bands are the perfect product to transition from your regular pants to maternity pants in case you are not yet ready for them.

In the case of maternity belts, these are extremely necessary during the second and third trimesters to support your back. Your back is going to be suffering all sorts of discomforts and pain, and that is due to the shift of gravity and weight of your growing belly.

6. Antacids.

Before my pregnancy, if someone had told me that having antacids on hand was essential, I would not have believed it, because I am the type of person who has never had any kind of problem of that nature. However, during pregnancy, it is a different story. Due to hormones, all sorts of discomforts are produced in the digestive system.

The appearance of Heartburn is common. That is why it is recommended that you always have some type of stomach remedy in your medicine cabinet. Always check with your doctor before you take any medications, but usually, Tums or Mylanta should be good.

7. Maternity clothes.

Several studies have shown that a large percentage of women experiencing prolonged symptoms of morning sickness is because they are wearing inappropriate clothing, that might be putting some pressure on the neck, stomach, breasts of a pregnant woman.

Therefore, loose-fitting clothes are crucial.

During the first trimester, it may not be necessary to buy new clothes, but as soon as you get closer to the second and third trimesters, you need to update your wardrobe.

Among some of the essential clothing you need are:

  • A pair of jeans and shorts.
  • Dresses.
  • Tops and blouses.
  • Skirt.

8. Comfortable shoes.

Yes, it is possible to look and feel sexy with flats instead of high heels during pregnancy. And this point, I emphasize not only because I was pregnant twice, but also because of my career. As an ultrasound technician, after scanning so many patients over many years, I have seen how much harm an unnecessary fall can be caused by wearing heels during pregnancy. From a placental abruption to ruptured membranes, and all of this can result in a premature baby. Therefore, look for a comfortable flat shoes that are to your liking, but will prevent you from falling and having unwanted and unnecessary complications.

9. Comfortable pregnancy bra.

Even though you are not breastfeeding yet, your breasts have already started preparing for what is coming, feeding your baby for a while. Therefore, during the first trimester, it may be necessary only to buy some bra extenders, but as soon as you reach the second and third trimester, and even until the postpartum period, you will need an extremely comfortable pregnancy bra, which will give your breasts the support and comfort necessary, so you don’t feel so sore.

10. Pregnancy panties.

Your undies are important as well. Either because you are the type of mommy who likes to cover the whole belly, or the type of mommy who prefers thongs, you need something comfortable and fresh that will provide your body with comfort.

11. Body pillows.

This is another must-have item during pregnancy. Why? Well, pregnancy is a beautiful stage. However, it comes with many side effects. Just as your pregnancy progresses, your daily life becomes more difficult, and it will also be challenging to rest and sleep peacefully with a large belly as well. A pregnancy pillow is designed to hug and support the contours of your body and stomach, so that lying down doesn’t feel like a torture anymore. Therefore, consider investing in a body pillow that gives you comfort so you can rest properly.

Obviously to this list, you can add other things that, although they are somehow important, are not essential in my opinion. Among those items you have, for example: A pregnancy journal, a milestone pregnancy tracker, pregnancy books, etc.

During this time my advice to you is to focus on what is important, the health of your baby and prioritized a healthy pregnancy, always check with your doctor when taking medications, or seeking information about what is appropriate, or what is not during pregnancy, prepare early, but above all, enjoy the time even if you feel bad because is worth it
