At 23 weeks pregnant, the baby is as big as a grapefruit. The average 23 week fetus weighs about 1.2 lbs. and measures 20 centimeters long(Excluding legs).

Please know that small discrepancies on weight and size not necessarily means that there is a problem, only if the difference is 2 weeks or more further testing is required.

What are your symptoms at 23 week pregnant:

Bleeding and/or swollen gums: Pregnancy hormones increase your blood flow, making your gums more likely to swell and bleed. If your mouth is feeling more sensitive than usual, switch to a soft bristle toothbrush and continue flossing regularly. And stick with your normal dental exam routine, seeing the dentist at least every six months.

Swollen hands and/or feet: Now that you’re pregnant, you have an increase in the amount of fluids in your body. So minor swelling is totally normal and will resolve as soon as baby is born.

Braxton Hicks contractions: You might start noticing mild contractions at this point, some patients more than others, Braxton hicks contractions is when your uterus occasionally feel tight as it practices for labor. This is totally normal as long as the contractions go away when you change positions. Let your doctor know about any pain or contractions that don’t stop, Keep in mind that Dehydration can cause Premature Labor, so try to keep yourself hydrated at all times. If you are pregnant with twins expect to be feeling more of this contractions.

Backaches: With the growth of the uterus and your baby, this begins to mildly bend your spine and put stress on your back muscles. Backaches are especially common for women who are 23 weeks pregnant with twins.

An increased Fetal activity might be more noticeable at this time as well, baby is more active kicking more and more every day.

  • Baby’s forming little nipples at this stage. And your cute little 23 week fetus’s face is fully formed, he or she just needs a little extra fat to fill it out.
  • Baby’s entertaining him or herself by listening to your voice and your heartbeat, and can even hear some loud sounds like cars honking and dogs barking. Isn’t that cool?
  • Your baby is building muscle and getting stronger. They are usually very active at this time. You might be feeling a lot more movement.
  • A baby can respond to light as early as 23 weeks. If you shine a flashlight on your belly, your baby will react and move.
