Normal child development at 6 months.

As we all know all children do not develop at the same speed, some go slow while others learn very fast, regardless of whether you always have activities that can help your child, we also have to allow them time to learn and develop. In this post I will give the list of the Normal 6 months child development you should be seeing in your child. Your baby will gradually start doing all these activities on his own. Keep in mind all children don’t develop at the same pace.

Normal 6 months child development.

1. Communication skills.

At the age of 6 months your baby should be doing all of these:

  • Throaty or gurgling sounds.
  • Cooing sounds such as ooo, gah, and aah.
  • Chuckling.
  • Making sounds back to you as he/she is having a conversation.
  • Smiling back to you or any other care giver.
  • Getting excited when he/she sees you.

2. Gross motor skills.

  • Your baby should be able to turn the head sideways or hold his head up for a few seconds when laying on his tummy.
  • While laying on his back your baby should be able to move head side to side, kick his legs, waving his arms, wiggle and squirm.

3. Fine motor skills.

  • Your baby should be able to grasp your finger if you touch his hand.
  • Touch his face with his hands.
  • Keep the hands open while awake rather than in a fist, as they were when he was a newborn.
  • Your baby should be able to hold a Toy on his hands for a few seconds. Your baby grab or his clothes.

4. Other skills that your baby should achieve at this developmental age include:

  • Look objects/toys located 8 to 10 inches away from his face.
  • Follow you when you move around with his eyes.
  • Move his head up or down, side to side following objects with his eyes.

5. Personal skills.

  • Your baby smiles at you when you smile at him.
  • Watch his hands.
  • Recognize that he is about to be feed when he sees the breast or bottle

Final thoughts about Normal 6 months child development.

These are the most important activities that your baby should be doing from 4 to 6 months, it is important to give your baby the time to gradually develop, however, is also important the training from parents or caregivers to the child, remember diseases such as Autism cannot be diagnosed in the womb, so if your baby does not do any of these activities at the end of the four months you should check with the doctor.
