Fetal developments at 14 weeks!

  • Your baby can now move his/her face muscles therefore any kind of face expressions are occurring on his face at this time.  All of this is due to brain impulses.
  • kidneys are producing urine as well, so he/she can pee inside your womb, this pee is release into the amniotic fluid around his body, a process that will be normal until birth.
  • Your baby can grasp and if you’re having an ultrasound soon, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.
  • By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that’s in proportion to the rest of his body.

14 Weeks Pregnant Symptoms.

Increased appetite: Once morning sickness starts to go away, you might find yourself craving and wanting to eat more things. Remember that what you eat is fueling your baby’s rapid growth. You should aim to eat about 300 extra calories per day , you really don’t need more than that to keep a healthy weight gain. If you’re 14 weeks pregnant with twins, you’ll want to eat about 680 extra calories per day now that you’re in your second trimester. Keep plenty of healthy snacks by your side but remember give yourself the freedom to indulge once in a while.

Round ligament pain: You’re probably feeling some aches and pains as your muscles and ligaments stretch to accommodate your growing baby. At 14 weeks pregnant, cramps are often because of round ligament pain, but if you have any concerns always check with your doctor.

Increased energy: You are now have some of your energy back time to get back to a fitness routine. Exercise will benefit you and your baby as well, and can even make labor easier when the time comes, in the meantime you can also enjoy more time with your family and fiends.

Typically, there isn’t a 14-week ultrasound. You likely had an ultrasound in your first trimester and won’t have one again until the anatomy scan, which usually happens between weeks 18 and 22. The doctor will also use an ultrasound if you plan to have an amniocentesis (between weeks 15 and 20).

There are possible reasons why the doctor order an Ultrasound at this time:

  • Excessive pelvic pain or cramping.
  • Spotting or bleeding.
  • Traumatic event ( car accident etc..)

If any of those symptoms occurred doesn’t mean that necessarily there is something wrong however is always good to check.

Doctor visits!

During the second trimester (14 weeks to 27 weeks). You’ll typically see your Doctor once every four weeks, unless you have a condition or complications that call for more frequent checkups. Here’s what you can expect your physician to do at each visit.

  • Record your weight.
  • Check your blood pressure and urine sample.
  • Listen to your baby’s heartbeat.
  • Discuss test and procedures that are tailored for your specific    situation.
  • And finally order an ultrasound between 16 and 20 weeks to check for physical abnormalities (Anatomy Ultrasound) and to verify the baby’s due date. This may also be a chance to find out your baby’s sex if you want to.
